Founder's Story
How It Started
CrestLine started the way most good small businesses do — out of frustration. In 2008, our founder spent three weekends trying to find a contractor who would return calls, show up when promised, and quote a fair price for a simple bathroom refresh in his Wilmette home. The contractors who answered the phone gave wildly different quotes; the one he hired showed up two days late, asked for cash “to keep things simple,” and never finished the trim. Total wasted time: about 60 hours. Total wasted dollars: about $3,400.
The next year, frustrated, he started doing the work himself — first for his own home, then for neighbors. Word spread on Wilmette's Old Glenview Road that there was a guy who picked up on the first ring, showed up at exactly the time promised, charged what he quoted, and cleaned up. Within eighteen months, the side project became CrestLine Home Pro, with the first hire (still on the team today as a senior carpenter) and the first truck.

15 Years, One Promise

Founded on the North Shore
CrestLine started in a one-truck garage in Wilmette with a single mission — show up when promised, do the work right, leave the home cleaner than we found it. Our first job was a $180 ceiling-fan install for a Wilmette homeowner who's still a client today.

First Full Kitchen Remodel
A long-time handyman client asked us to take on their kitchen — that 6-week, $42K renovation became the template for the design-build process we use today: senior PM on every job, fixed-price proposal, milestone-based payments, no change-order surprises.

All-W-2 Crew Commitment
We made a quiet but expensive decision: drop 1099 day-labor entirely and bring every craftsman in-house as a W-2 employee with workers' comp coverage. It cut margins short-term but doubled retention and ended subcontractor-juggling forever.

By referral from North Shore clients with summer homes, friends in Arlington Heights, Northbrook, and Schaumburg, we opened the second service area. The NW Suburbs now account for 40% of project volume.
