Insulation & Weatherization in Chicagoland
Chicago winters are brutal. When the polar vortex sends wind chills to minus 30 and your furnace runs nonstop for days, every gap in your home's thermal envelope costs real money. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the typical American home loses 25 to 30 percent of its heating and cooling energy through insufficient insulation and air leaks — and in Chicagoland, where winter heating bills can exceed $300 per month, that translates to hundreds of dollars wasted every year.
CrestLine Home Pro provides comprehensive insulation and weatherization services for homeowners across the North Shore, Northwest Suburbs, and Chicago neighborhoods. We start with a thorough energy assessment of your home's thermal performance. Using infrared thermal imaging and a blower door test, we identify exactly where heat is escaping — attic bypasses, recessed light cans, electrical penetrations, rim joists, gaps around windows and doors, and under-insulated wall cavities. This data-driven approach means we fix the biggest problems first and deliver the best return on your investment.
Attic insulation is the single most impactful weatherization upgrade for most Chicagoland homes. Heat rises, and a poorly insulated attic acts like an open window in winter. Many homes built before 2000 have only R-19 to R-30 attic insulation — well below the current code requirement of R-49 for our climate zone (Zone 5). We install blown-in cellulose or fiberglass insulation to bring your attic up to R-49 or higher, sealing attic air bypasses — top plates, plumbing stacks, duct chases, and recessed lights — before adding insulation so the blanket of insulation has a sealed air barrier beneath it.
Wall insulation is the next priority, especially for homes built before 1980 that may have empty or partially filled wall cavities. We install dense-pack cellulose through small holes drilled in the exterior siding or interior plaster, filling every cavity from bottom to top. The holes are patched and made invisible. Dense-pack cellulose not only insulates but also reduces air infiltration through the wall assembly, providing a dual benefit.
Rim joist insulation is a frequently overlooked but high-impact upgrade. The rim joist — the perimeter framing on top of your foundation wall — is often completely uninsulated and exposed to exterior temperatures. We insulate rim joists with cut-and-cobble rigid foam board sealed with spray foam at the edges, creating an airtight, well-insulated barrier at one of the leakiest spots in the home.
Weatherstripping and air sealing address the dozens of smaller leaks that add up to significant energy loss. We replace worn weatherstripping on exterior doors, install door sweeps and thresholds, caulk window frames and trim joints, seal electrical outlets and switch plates on exterior walls with foam gaskets, and close gaps around dryer vents, hose bibs, and cable penetrations. These small fixes collectively make a noticeable difference in comfort and energy bills.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 created federal tax credits of up to $3,200 per year for qualifying home energy improvements through 2032. Insulation and air sealing qualify for a 30 percent credit up to $1,200 per year, and a home energy audit qualifies for a $150 credit. We provide the documentation and product specifications you need to claim these credits on your tax return.
Every insulation project includes before-and-after thermal images so you can see the improvement, a certificate of insulation with R-values documented, and a workmanship warranty.

The CrestLine Advantage
How Insulation Works
Energy Assessment
We perform a thermal imaging scan and blower door test to map exactly where your home is losing heat. You receive a prioritized list of upgrades ranked by energy savings and cost.
Scope & Proposal
Based on the assessment, we provide a fixed-price proposal covering insulation type, R-values, air sealing scope, and estimated energy savings. We include tax credit documentation details.
Air Sealing
Before adding insulation, we seal attic bypasses, rim joists, plumbing and electrical penetrations, and recessed light cans. Sealing first ensures insulation performs at its rated R-value.
Insulation Installation
Blown-in cellulose or fiberglass is installed in attics and walls to meet or exceed code requirements. Rigid foam is cut and sealed at rim joists. Weatherstripping and door sweeps are installed.
Verification & Documentation
We take after-install thermal images, document installed R-values, and provide a certificate of insulation along with product specifications needed for federal tax credit claims.

Insulation FAQ
What Our Clients Say About Our Insulation
CrestLine blew in new cellulose insulation in our attic and sealed all the air leaks around plumbing stacks, electrical boxes, and the attic hatch. Our heating bill dropped by about 25% the first month. The house is noticeably warmer and more comfortable. They also added proper baffles at the soffits for ventilation. Very impressed with their knowledge.
Had our 1970s home fully weatherized — new attic insulation, rim joist spray foam, weatherstripping on all exterior doors, and caulking around every window. The difference is dramatic, especially with drafts. CrestLine did a blower door test before and after to show the improvement. Highly recommend.
Insulated the crawl space and band joists in our bungalow. Used closed-cell spray foam which also acts as a vapor barrier. Floors above are warmer now and we're saving on energy costs. Clean installation, they masked everything off carefully.
